ELECTRO 3 OS UPDATE & PRODUCT PAGES The Electro 3 has received an important OS update to version 1.16, and the factory programs, pianos and samples have also received a makeover. Current Electro 3 owners are welcome to download these updates in the Electro 3 Download area. Just in time for the holidays, the Electro 3 Product Pages are finally online, together with the free applications that support this great instrument. The Electro 3 Manager allows you to transfer pianos, Sample Instruments and programs to and from the Electro 3. The Nord Sample Editor allows you to assemble audio files of your choice and create Sample Instruments, and then transfer these and use them in the Electro 3. And while we were at it, the first archives in the Nord Sample Library is now available in the Nord Sample Library area.

Nord Stage OS update - get your 4.04 todayThis maintenance update fixes an issue with the reverb making unwanted noises when you switched reverb types and also a file transfer issue where downloading a complete bank of Programs or Synth Patches to the Stage could be aborted. Available for the classic Stage and the Stage EX - in the Nord Stage Download Area.

NORD IN CONCERT The Nord staff were invited to a great concert at Berns in Stockholm, by Israeli / French rising star, Yael Naim and her magnificent band. Learn more about her and her music at www.yaelweb.com. Here is Tomas Enochsson, Laurent David, David Donatien, Xavier Tribolet and Yael Naim.

The v4.04 OS update for the Nord Stage and the Nord Stage EX is now available for immediate download, together with a new Stage Manager and a bunch of new and improved sounds. The OS update contains fixes for some issues that have been discovered, but perhaps more exciting; it adds a new functionality to the Delay and makes the current and previous Nord Stage units compatible with the new and improved format for our pianos - the Nord Piano Library. The OS update is available for the classic Stage revision A, B and C models and the new Stage EX models. The sounds in the Piano Library can also be used by Electro 3 owners. NEW AND IMPROVED FEATURES The new delay implementation has two selectable modes, selectable in the Sound menu. The new Analog mode will change the pitch on the repeats if the Rate/Tempo knob is turned. If the Normal delay mode is active, no pitch change will occur (as in the previous versions). When you change the delay time by tapping, no pitch change will occur in either of the delay modes. The feedback parameter in the delay has an increased range and high-pass filtering will be gradually applied during longer feedback times. Our developers have managed to optimize the startup time and the general processing speed of the OS, which leads to a significant performance boost. The playback engine and voice allocation system of the piano section have also been optimized, leading to 4 extra voices of available polyphony. The voice allocation in the Synth section has also been enhanced. A complete list of fixes and additions can be found here. NORD PIANO LIBRARY The new OS is accompanied by a complete makeover of the piano sounds. The new format - Nord Piano Library (.npno) - is now common for the Stage, Stage EX and the Electro 3. Most of the pianos from the former Nord Stage format - .nsp - have been converted, and improved. Some of them have been retuned; others have been expanded with additional velocity layers or tweaked in other areas. A good old friend from the Electro 2 library have returned - a great, almost obnoxious Electric Mk I Suitcase that hasn't been available to the Stage before. The Harpsichords are a first for us, with an Italian model with its delicate voice, and the more robust, triple stringed French, in various settings. Classic Stage users will also find the pianos from the Nord Stage EX factory setup, like the Studio Grand2 XL version, with loads of extra velocity layers. In order to be able to use the new pianos, the Stage has to be updated to OS v4.x, and used together with the new Stage Manager v4.0 (and a new, digitally signed USB driver if you are on a Windows computer). Electro 3 owners can use the Electro 3 Manager to download new pianos to their instrument. All the Stage update components are available in the Nord Stage Download area - the Pianos can be found in the new Library Section.

We are very pleased to announce the new Nord Stage EX models. The Stage EX stems directly from the Nord Stage, but have gone through a major hardware change and also received a cosmetic makeover. The new features are:

Increased memory capacity for the piano samples. The EX units have twice the internal memory capacity compared to the former models, an increase from 128 to 256 MB.
• The front panel sports a new color scheme.
• The Stage EX 88 and Stage EX 76 models have text printed on the front panel upper rim to indicate the position and function of the rear panel jacks. (The NS Compact EX will not have these labels, there isn't room on the panel on this unit.)

The increased memory allows users to add more pianos from the Nord Stage Piano Library, to bring an even greater selection of these sounds to each and every performance.
The Nord Stage EX will be accompanied by upcoming releases of new grand pianos, e.g. a Studio Grand2 XL version, and other additions to the free Nord Piano Library. These additions to the Piano Library will also be compatible with the previous Nord Stage models, and their availability will be announced on this very website.

The Nord Stage has been awarded with the M.I.P.A. award in the Best Stage Piano category for three consecutive years: 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Website update: New Nord Stage sound clips The Nord Stage information page have just been updated with four new sound clips. The first example presents the impressive dynamic range and the sound quality of the new Studio Grand2 Yamaha C7 that was released earlier this year.
We have also added three clips with examples of the Nord Stage Synth section. All the Nord Stage audio files can be found on the Nord Stage information page

We've seen some more very flattering product reviews that we'd like to show you (ok, bragging is probably the operative word here). The internationally acclaimed UK based magazine Sound on Sound had two Nord reviews, back to back in the April and May issues. The Nord C1 Combo Organ was under the scrutiny of Mr Gordon Reid. Here are a few quotes:

"Make no mistake: despite the lack of real drawbars, I like the C1 very much. It's superbly playable, and the sound is excellent. Choosing the Hammond mode, I experimented with jazz, blues and pop styles, and it responded and sounded just as I wanted. I strayed deep into prog rock with Deep Purple riffs, Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Focus, and then - at the touch of a button - transported myself into soul and gospel territory, and the C1 always delivered."

"I think you could justify the cost of the C1 for its Vox and Farfisa modes alone!"

"The C1 is a first-class instrument. Its emulations are excellent, and the chorus/vibrato and Leslie effects are as good as I have heard. Would I use one? Certainly, and I believe that few, if any, listeners would be able to tell that I was not using an original Hammond, Vox or Farfisa."

In the May issue, Mr Paul Nagle took the Nord Wave through its paces, leaving no sonic stone unturned. Here are a few excerpts from his review:

"Speaking of ethereal mush, the Vocal filter is my personal favourite after the low-pass. It employs two resonant peaks which can be manipulated to resemble vowel sounds. The resonance control varies the distance between the peaks, and cut-off applies a shift, which can be quite dramatic over its full range. I was able to generate some beautifully expressive choir patches using the morph function with its filter: I set the velocity to raise the cutoff frequency whilst the mod wheel swept the resonance."

"Effortlessly, [using the Nord Wave Manager] I assembled a bunch of drum loops over a short range of keys, a bass over a couple of octaves and a solo flute higher up. USB transfer to the Wave happened without me even needing to think about it."

"Make no mistake, when you start to build your own instruments you really appreciate the Nord Wave's strengths. Not that the provided samples, the Mellotrons especially, are anything less than wonderful. But Nords are for programming and this one raises the bar in terms of the uniquely rich, organic tones it can produce."

"Somehow Clavia keep managing to leap ahead of the pack by creating these classic, simple-yet-powerful instruments. A winner."
